Whitworth Men in Sheds Project: 22nd July 2018 – 22nd July 2019
We have been fortunate to receive National Lottery Awards for All funding for our “Whitworth Men in Sheds Project”.
The project aims to provide a space for men from Whitworth and the surrounding area who want to come together to share skills, life experiences, learn and have fun.
We will support men who have experienced life-changing events such as redundancy, retirement, bereavement or mental/physical ill-health and provide a place to meet, be productive and get involved in their local community. We will engage men who don’t see much of other people in informal adult learning activity where they can keep mind and body active.
We aim to:
- Promote collaborative learning, knowledge transfer and social interaction
- Improve health and well-being
- Reduce feelings of loneliness, anxiety and social isolation
- Increase access to local health services and support networks
Any activities delivered through the Men in Sheds project will have been developed from ideas from local men. The project will hold regular consultation opportunities to attract new members and to develop new ideas. Workshop ideas that have already come from the local community include a tool repair workshop, model trains group, coffee and chat group. The Shed will be a base for other activities that take place in the wider community.
